Eternals
Synopsis
The film opens with the arrival of the ten members of the Eternals to Earth about 7 thousand years BC. They then immediately save humanity from the threat of the Deviants race who invaded Earth while helping human civilization a little. Even so, they should only be involved in human affairs or conflicts if it is related to the threat of Deviants.
After the last Deviants on Earth were defeated in 1521, the ten members of the alien race then decided to live separately, awaiting Arishem's orders to return. However, 5 centuries later when civilization was more modern, Deviants appeared again threatening human safety. This also makes them finally regroup to fight the Deviants.
The main time setting of this film takes place in the modern era when the Deviants reappear. However, throughout the film, we will still be presented with flashback scenes from the early days of the Eternals on Earth until they finally split up in 1521. Each of these flashback moments will also be related to the ongoing conflict in the main time setting.
The style of storytelling that takes back and forth time is arguably a little bit complex and different from MCU films in general. So, if you just walk away or go to the toilet while watching, chances are you'll miss an important point in the story. So, if you can, you have to really focus and don't miss a single scene while watching this film.
Through this film, we are introduced to 10 members of the Eternals. They are Invite, Sersi, Ikaris, Kingo, Sprite, Phastos, Makkari, Druig, Gilgamesh and Thena. The ten have distinct personalities that are very interesting as well as entertaining as a team. They are also played by actors who are very suitable so that the characters feel much more "alive".
Unfortunately, the character introduction of each member of the alien race doesn't feel deep enough that we as viewers seem to just know them. This makes the viewer feel less emotionally attached to each character. So, it's not surprising that in the emotional scene of one of the characters, the audience won't feel anything because they don't really know them.
The lack of depth in the introduction of each character in this film occurs because 10 characters are immediately displayed at once. It seems a bit rushed with the duration of the film. In addition, for viewers in Indonesia, this factor also occurs because of the cutting of scenes related to the intimate relationship of some of the characters. In fact, the cut scene is quite influential on the conflict and emotions of the characters.
